My addiction to Oppo is probably one of the factors in my getting laid off at my last job. It was so much more enjoyable than the shit job I had, especially after I was tossed into doing sales crap that I absolutely hated. Never was I more relieved to be let go. On the bright side, my next (and current) job is one of the best I’ve had in ages and I love what I do, so much so that there’s no time to hang out here whilst working.

Half my job is waiting for other people to get done with something, then I jump back into “emergency mode.” It’s not a lot of fun. I’d much rather be busy most of the time, but at big companies you’re always reliant on other people for stuff. It’s actually really, really inefficient and I can’t even imagine how much productivity is lost because of this. In a small company or proprietorship, there’s always something productive that can be done.

Everyone’s still settling in after the long weekend here so no big projects yet, but I do have some emails to follow up and meetings to prepare.

I’m a HS Physics teacher and it’s exam week, I only had one class today and it just ended. Time to go to lunch and not come back until tomorrow (Wednesday and Thursday are half days, then Friday is graduation and then I’m done until August).

Better refresh Oppo every 30 seconds looking for new content

Actually I’m off today - doctors appointments. I do sometimes check from work, but only when I’m on a break. They block most websites at work, and I can understand why, but there are still too m many people with their phones out when they should be working, and a lot of them don’t put their phones on silent. As long as it’s slow I don’t really care, but if I’m having to cover for you whilst you’re o n your phone, you better believe you’re going to hear about it.
As a former network administrator/engineer who has had responsibility for web blocking software, I know how those guys in IT think; these guys at my new company are no different. They will never, ever block their favorite tech websites, so if I’m bored I can always get to those

Haha - nice. I came from a big corporate environment (lots of restrictions) and am now at a small start-up (I have full rights to my computer to install whatever I want). Would be hard to go back!

One wonders at how much money Oppo has cost the world in terms of lost productivity . If you take that amount and divide by the number of posts for a given day, you could find out exactly how much a shitpost costs.

Fine. And you can drive my AMG.
Now I’ll just need you to replace the HV battery on a 453 smart electric. I'll power it down, but you get to do the nuts and bolts.

Got any thick rubber gloves?
I’ve wondered about those electric Smarts. Some of the used prices are dirt cheap, and it could be a decent little commuter. I haven’t heard any horror stories about losses in range like I have heard with the Leaf.
Ah, who am I kidding? If I replace my car in the next 2-3 years, I’ll likely go for a Chevy Volt. They seem to be decently reliable.

Quite a few HV certified pairs actually! In fact, we’ve got the whole HV monkey suit. But with the system powered down it isn’t necessary.
The previous gen electric smart has proven to be much more reliable than the current gen. That doesn’t mean I’d consider one without a warranty though. If the battery does fail, they’re extremely expensive and extremely hard to get. But the warranty on the battery itself is pretty long, like 8-10 years IIRC. I would just verify that coverage before buying one. Everything else on them is perfectly reasonable/reliable.
Current gen I wouldn’t even want under warranty. Too much down time. Too many battery failures. Too shitty to work on. I actually really like the 451 electric, but the 453 electric makes me mega-loathe smarts all over again. They took away a lot of intuitive service functionality and swapped it with stupid, time consuming, convoluted, unnecessary bullshit.
